Miss Ree Na has had to cope with the unflattering opinions the public holds of her ever since she was crowned Miss Korea 2009. Apparently, she is not considered pretty or “queenly” enough to deserve the distinction. Ugly rumors run rampant of the pageant having been rigged, and that her parents paid off the judges to assure that their little girl won. Well, whether this is true or not, I don’t know. I prefer to ignore the speculations unless they can be proven without a doubt. I’ve seen the pics of the 2009 universe contestants, and as usual, many are physically quite stunning. Even if she is not the conventional beauty queen, that may prove to be in her favor. She’s unique, and Miss Korea may stand out from the crowd if she really uses her strengths like intelligence and charm well. From her interviews, I think she is a nice and intelligent lady, and her inner beauty comes through. Isn’t that the kind of “face” (and I don’t mean in literal terms) Korea would want to represent to the world? Come on Korea, I understand your point of view, but hasn’t Ree Na, who is only human after all, been crushed enough? Let’s give her our support and wish her the best.
