This coastal city has given the country its fist Miss world in Ms.Aishwaraya Rai but there is one more doe eyed beauty waiting in line to wear the mantle. Yes, only this time she is a high flying banker too! Enter Mrs. Shrima Rai sister in law of Aishwarya Rai. She is that beautiful lady and she was in Mangalore recently and shared her dreams with the press here.
She was crowned the first runner up in the “Mrs India 2009″ beauty pageant organized by the glamour mangazine Gladrags on March 14, 2009. She also won the Best Model sub-title. Born in a Mangalore based Bunt family Mrs. Rai is a relative of Aishwarya, but that is hardly a qualification to become the probable for the Mrs World, she is endowed richly with Gods choicest beauty tips
Married to Aditya, Aishwarya’s brother, she has a career as a banker in the Standard Chartered bank and the recent crown of Gladrags magazine is an additional achievement.
Her parents belong to Mangalore. Her father Bellippady Nemiraj Rai is settled in the United States as a scientist, her mother Vaishali Rai also lives there.
Shrima is now looking at an additional career in bollywood and is waiting for the right opportunity. But she is not keen on any aira gyra stuff but is looking for a role that will suit her. She does not forget to thank her parents for the support and has always wanted to visit Mangalore as she finds the city to her liking, except the fact that it is hot during summer.
“Ash is a professional at walking the ramp and she shared some tips with me regarding the walk and expressions, but the one important thing she told me was that I should forget about everything and just enjoy the experience. And that actually helped me a lot,” says Shrima.
Asked about how she met Aditya, Shrima said that his family was distantly related to her family and they first met during a party hosted by their aunt. Thats how they got closer and decided to marry. It was when she lived with Adityas family during the first three years of their marriage, she bonded with Aishwarya, she says. Bubbly as always, I am happy for her as she is happily married and settled with Abhishek now, says Shrima. “They are one of the cutest couples I have ever known,” she said.
Asked if she would accept any offer from film industry, Mrs Rai said that “though I havent been approached so far, I’m open to such offers.”
Sofia Handa was crowned Mrs India while Shivalaika Sharma was adjudged second runner-up. Among those who judged the event included the president of Gladrags Beauty Pageants Maureen Wadia, Bollywood actress Mahima Chaudhry, and Neetu Chand.
Mahima Chowdhary on the occasion said the contest was unique because there was age limit like other beauty pageants. “Miss India is limited to a certain age group, but this is like endless. You could belong to any age group and take part. So you get to see a lot more variety here,” said Mahima.
Interestingly, some of the contestants were in the age bracket of 43, 42 and 39. A few were mothers of teenagers too and a couple of others happened to be newly wed housewives. The winner will represent India in the Mrs. World pageant.
